Michelle Berne

Michelle Berne, Director

Michelle Berne is an internationally renowned interdisciplinary, multi-media artist who specializes in community celebrations. She has created processions, “people powered” parades, spectacles, and site specific performances involving thousands of participants and tens of thousands of spectators. She collaborates with cities and organizations to co-create "people-powered" parades, spectacles, and site-specific performances which most often feature her 10-15 foot giant puppets. From France to Florida, Los Angeles to Taiwan, her work brings joy and spectacular scale to events which spark the imagination and ignite the human spirit.

In 2003, she was the featured international artist at the Suho IPE Festival, Taipei, Taiwan. Her work has also been featured at the Grand Opening of the Getty Center; the Grand Opening of the Mark Taper Center for Inner-City Arts; the 2600th Anniversary of the City of Marseille, France; the 30th Anniversary of the LA Music Center; The International Festival of Masks; and the opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics for the state of Montana.

Visual Art Exhibitions include the 2003-2004 Suho Memorial Paper Foundation, Taipei, Taiwan, International Puppets Exhibition, Los Angeles Craft & Folk Art Museum (2003), 18th Street Arts Center Group Shows (2001 and 2002), and a solo exhibition, Fantasy and Phantasmagoria, Highways Gallery (1999).
